Rockin' The Vineyards!
Three concerts down, six to go!
On July 4th, over 200 wine-and-blues lovers
ventured out to the Farm for a fun bash with The Skyla Burrell Blues Band. Blues skies over Skyla, Three Ships Sangria, and of course,
glass after glass of Adams County Winery wines made this a fun day for
everyone! Skyla will be singing the blues at the Winery again on August 29th.
On the 11th, The Willys made a splash with their eclectic mix of classic rock.
As grey clouds settled in over Orrtanna, we rock-n-rolled with the thunder and
kept the burgers and 'dogs comin'! The
Willys will be back on August 22nd for round two - fingers
crossed for a sunny day!
We still have six more fun concerts lined up for July and
August, and at each concert you can enter a drawing for a chance to win a FREE
bottle of wine! The
winners of our previous drawings are Barb Lang of McSherrystown, Tammy Monn of
Hanover, and T.W. Burger of Gettysburg. With each concert that you attend, you increase your chances of
winning our grand prize - a gift basket worth over $100! Our next concert is on
Saturday July 25th, when Fretwork
will jazz up the Winery. See you there!

Attention
Maryland fanatics of Adams County Winery - COMING TO A LIQUOR STORE NEAR YOU......
Part of what I do here (other than smile and flirt with
older women and drive Katherine and John bonkers with my excellent record
keeping ability) is attempt to expand the availability of our delicious wines
so you may be able to find them at a retail location closer to you. If you are from Pennsylvania or at all any
way versed in Pennsylvania's control of the liquor industry you are aware of
the "Pennsylvania State Wine and Spirit" stores. You will not find any of our wine in these
locations but that discussion is probably better suited for a political
roundtable with your local state representative than a winery newsletter. We do however sell our wine in Maryland
liquor stores, those incredible pillars of free enterprise that they are. (I was born and raised in Maryland and am
only a recent Pennsylvanian so you will have to excuse my love affair with the
state of my birth. Go Terps!). Certain
Maryland residents may be able to spare themselves a trip to Gettysburg and
find their favorite Adams County Winery wines in a location closer to
home. Our wines are currently available
at these fine establishments:
Mountain
Liquors
301-447-2342
Emmitsburg
Village
Liquors
301-447-6660
Emmitsburg
J&G
Liquors
410-861-8006
Finksburg
Beckley's
Country Store & Liquors
301-662-2126
Frederick
It is important to keep in mind that not all of our wines
are available in each location. It is
best to call and make sure they have the wine that you want before you make the
trip out there. I know this list is
small as of now but hopefully that will change.
Now, this is where you all come in to play! If you want to be my new superbestfriend you
can help me do my job. If there is a
liquor store in Maryland that you frequent and they do not carry our wine -
Hook me up! Tell the owner you want him
to carry our wine! Give him my name and
number! (Gavin, 717-334-4631, gavin@adamscountywinery.com) Throw me a line with the liquor store's name
and location! It's a revolution people
and everyone is invited to participate!
Really, I do not know every liquor store in Maryland (I'm not in college
anymore, lol) so the best way for me to try and get our wine to a liquor store
near you is if you tell me where you are and what store you frequent.
Thanks for all your help.
Keep on truckin and keep on drinking wine - just not at the same time!
Gavin

Vintners Report
Good news, campers!
The grapes are looking good. Too good, as a matter of
fact. We have so many grapes in some areas that we will wind up dropping
some of them so that we get a higher quality crop. It's part of
viticulture practices which, if you had been paying attention in my Wine
Appreciation Course, you would already know. Evan, our wine maker, is
busy bottling, managing the picking of blueberries, and keeping vineyard stuff
going. Say hi to him next time you're here.
Among my personal heroes are members of Easy company,
501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne
Division, who fought their way across Europe during WWII. For a bottle of
wine, in what town were they located when they discovered the concentration
camp? First correct response wins. For a pair of ACW wine glasses,
what were the nicknames of Darrel Powers, Edward Hefron, and Norman Dyke?
If you are looking for an easy vacation, come to
Gettysburg. It's nearby, has lots to do, including the state's number one
winery (alphabetically), and ain't all that expensive.
See
you soon!

Cannons in the Vineyard!
The Rebels are coming and they want all our Rebel Red Wine!! Take
in some history (and some wine) as the 1st Rockbridge Artillery
makes camp here at Adams County Winery.
On July 25th from 9AM to 6 PM and July 26th from 9
AM to 2 PM the unit will be conducting a living history encampment that recreates
camp life of the War Between the States.
They will also periodically fire one of the replica cannons used during
the war. Members of this unit (called Redlegs) fired the first shots in
the Shenandoah Valley on July 2nd, 1861 and continued with Lee's
Army until the surrender at Appomattox on April 9th, 1865. The
encampment will overlap with one of the Winery's free summer concerts when Fretwork takes the stage with Jazz music/songs on Saturday the 25th
from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. So, when you've had your fill of the battlefield, ditch the
bottled water, get yourself a glass of wine, and enjoy a little bit of
history (and music) at Adams County Winery!
