Pa Wine Life

Adams County Winery has been featured on PaWineLife.com! Tom Kelchner, whose stated goal is to visit and videotape every Pennsylvania winery, did a wonderful job making videos of his interviews with that famous celebrity John the Vintner (me!), Jim, who runs the Carlisle location for us, and the Cathy, the Tasting Room Manager at the Winery. These videos are featured on his website, www.pawinelife.com. If you're looking for a professional videographer, Tom is perfect for the job. He creates high quality videos and can be reached at tkelchner@yahoo.com

Stray Cat is Back!

Stray Cat Strut is back again! This award-winning wine was named for our winery cats, Vidal and Legs.  They were strays who came waltzing into the winery and made it their home.  They also waltzed their way into our hearts, and now they've made it to our labels!  We finally got them to sit for a photo shoot - no small feat, if you cat-lovers know what I mean!  You'll see both Vidal (who is no longer at the winery) and Legs on the wine labels purchased here at the Farm Winery. Later, these labels will be on all of our Stray Cat wine.  Stray Cat Strut is a semi-dry, crisp Vidal wine that goes well with almost any food, especially seafood and poultry dishes. This wine is often only available for a limited time because like a stray cat, it comes and goes.

May.  I love May.  Balmy, sunny days.  Flowers blooming.  Critters frolicking in the meadow.

Where the heck is it!?

Right this minute, the wind is blowing, the temperature is 56 degrees, and there is the threat of more rain.  Right.

Well, the vines are still growing, length about four to six inches.  This is just right for this time of year.  It appears as though we are keeping disease at bay, and that the crop level will be good.  Let's hope we have another year like 2007.

We have lots of new and nifty items in the retail store.  Our "Group Therapy" shirts with the sparkly thingees on the front were so popular, that we have added two more shirts of the same type.  One says "Wines Constantly" and the other says "Its 5 O'clock Somewhere".  They are really cute, have the sparkly, girly glittery stuff on the front, and are sure to go quickly.  To my friend, George--- sorry, Bud.  We don't have them in your size.

Biker notice.  If you didn't make the blessing the bikes because you were too wimpy to ride in the driving rain, I have good news.  Your bike was blessed in absentia by Jim "Pappy" Strous, Chaplain of the local HOG.  We have on hand several of the "Blessing of the Bikes" pins for you for the asking.  Special thanks to Battlefield Harley Davidson for donating them to us.  Three bikers showed up.  Cathy, our Tasting Room Manager who rode in the rain all the way from Greencastle, me, and friends who rode their brand new Honda from Hanover.  Then another couple came a bit later.  The rest of you.  Wimps.  But get your pin anyway.  (Note to Big Biker Joe.  The "wimpy" does NOT apply to you.  I haven't gone all stupid.)

Festival report.  For the first time ever, we participated in the Gettysburg Blue Grass Festival this past weekend.  I was excited because Rhonda Vincent was playing.  Her pulchritude is surpassed only by her angelic voice.  So I was excited.  Except for the part where Gavin scheduled me to be at yet another festival in Annville, PA on the day that Rhonda was performing.  Guess which one of us got his photograph taken with her.

Coming up this weekend is FlavorFest at the Mt Hope Winery.  These are the people who organize the Renaissance Faire, so it's sure to be a good time.  You can get a discount coupon for the tickets if you go to this website:  http://www.padutchcountry.com/our_world/flavorfest.asp   AND, the highlight of the whole event is sure to be my talk on wine appreciation.  Hope to see you there.

Make sure you close out the month of May with a bottle of your favorite Adams County Wine and join us at one of these fine local festivals.  On Saturday May 31st we will be at the Dauphin County Wine and Blues Festival at Fort Hunter Park.  The festival will run from 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm and will be headlined by Blues legend Big Jack Johnson.  Tickets are $20 and include admission to the event and wine tasting.

We will also be at the infield of the York Fairgrounds that same weekend for the Taste of Pennsylvania Wine and Music Festival.  Come out for a day of great wine, live entertainment, and plenty of arts and crafts.  Tickets are $20 at the gate or can be purchased in advance for $17 over the internet @ www.yorkwinefest.com.  Hope to see you there!

Split Rock festival is June 21-22.  The bacchanalia is on Saturday, the more sedate function is on Sunday, but both are good. AND, the highlight of the whole event is sure to be my talk on wine appreciation.

Concerts.  Our concert series starts on July 5th with the Skyla Burrell Blues Band presenting their unique style of Chicago Blues.  Good rocking stuff.  Bring a picnic basket or purchase some of our food (dogs, burgers, other stuff) on site.  Please. NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES FROM ANYWHERE ELSE. It will be confiscated. I hate to shout, but there are some people who still take advantage of our hospitality and bring someone else's wine. Tacky.  Very tacky.

You can view all of our concert series on our webpage www.adamscountywinery.com/events.htm

In vino es veritas.
