Double Gold for Redleg Riesling Leads Field of 12 Awards for Adams County Winery at the 2014 Finger Lakes International Wine Competition

Orrtanna, PA – April 6, 2014 –Adams County Winery ( today announced that it won 12 medals at the 2014 Finger Lakes International Wine Competition (FLIWC) held last weekend in Rochester, NY, including a Double Gold for its Redleg Riesling white wine. Rounding out the winery’s dozen accolades were 5 Silver and 6 Bronze medals, bringing its major competition awards total to 140 since the year 2000. Adams County Winery, established in 1975 as Gettysburg’s first winery, will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2015.

Seventy-five of the world’s top judges from 16 countries reviewed more than 3,750 wines entered from 20 countries and 6 Canadian provinces at the 2014 FLIWC competition where Adams County Winery’s Redleg Riesling garnered its first-ever Double Gold Medal. The floral 2011 semi-dry vintage, which presents subtle honeysuckle and apricot tones, led the winery’s field of 12 winning wines. Silver Medals were awarded to Appalachian Moon Vintner’s Reserve Chardonnay; Rebel Red (garnering its 22nd overall award); Scrapple; Cherese Masquerade; and The Engagement. Bringing home Bronze Medals were Stray Cat Strut; Journey Vintner’s Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon; Entwine’d (chocolate); Tears of Gettysburg (earning its 27th overall award); and Timepiece Riesling and President’s Choice Moscato, each with first-time awards since their introduction as new wines last month.

Michael Vorauer, winemaker at Adams County Winery, discussed the FLIWC results: “The Finger Lakes region is known for its fine Rieslings. We are very excited that the FLIWC’s panel of international judges has welcomed our Redleg Riesling into its esteemed family of award-winning wines with recognition as a Double Gold Medal winner.” Of the 140 major international and national awards that Adams County Winery has garnered since it began keeping records in 2000, more than one third have found their way to the display shelves since Vorauer joined the winery in November 2012. “The awards always serve as a reinforcement of our efforts, but for me the greatest satisfaction comes in seeing smiles on customers’ faces when they enjoy our wines. It reminds me that I have done my job well.”

Adams County SPCA Receives Donation of Over $6,500 from Adams County Winery

Orrtanna, PA – March 24, 2014 – Adams County Winery ( presented a check in the amount of over $6,500 to the Adams County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ACSPCA) ( on Thursday, March 20. The donation, representing the winery’s cooperative fundraising efforts throughout 2013, marks the seventh consecutive year of support to the not-for-profit group on the part of the winery.

As in previous years, the lead fundraising event for the ACSPCA in 2013 was the Fourth Annual Rusty’s Birthday Bash on June 15, held in celebration of the winery’s Golden Retriever VIP (very important pet). Hundreds of visiting dogs and their human companions enjoyed music, food, demonstrations, custom wine labels for pets and people, and a Rusty’s Sidekick photo contest. Poppins, a Spaniel, was the winner of the contest as decided via onsite and online voting, and appeared on every label of Rusty’s Red wine sold by the winery during the month of August. The winery donated $1 to the ACSPCA for each bottle of Rusty’s Red wine sold during the month. In addition to the annual events and contests, Adams County Winery raised money throughout the year via bottles of wine sold with custom ACSPCA labels, a Rusty Look Alike Contest, and collection jars at each winery location. Nearly half of the winery’s total 2013 contribution to ACSPCA came from customer donations year-round at all three winery locations: the farm winery, (251 Peach Tree Road in Orrtanna); the Wine Shop at 25C (25 Chambersburg Street in downtown Gettysburg); or the Wine Shop at Hanover (1649 Broadway, located in the Amish Markets at Hanover). Rusty, adopted in 2008, remains a top attraction at the pet- and family-friendly winery. The 2014 Birthday Bash is scheduled for Saturday, June 14 from 11am-4pm. There is no cost to attend this event.
